Deadline approaching for flood help

Residents and business owners in Burnley planning to apply for financial support to make their property more resilient to flooding have until the end of the month to put in applications.

Burnley Council has been running a flood resilience grant scheme since floods affected parts of the borough on Boxing Day 2015. Under the scheme, properties that were flooded as a result of Storm Eva may be entitled to grants of up to £5,000, provided as part of government support.The deadline for applications is March 31st.The grants are to help fund additional flood resilience or resistance measures for those properties that were flooded in December 2015 to help better prepare them for potential future floods.Mick Cartledge, the council’s chief operating officer, said: “If someone was affected by the Boxing Day 2015 floods and feels they could be eligible for a grant they should apply now.”Any existing applications will still be dealt with after the deadline.So far the council has approved 48 business applications and paid out a total of £162,556.65, and 35 residential applications totaling £153,259.50.
