Towneley Hall turns pink for Race For Life 2012

Towneley Hall was bathed in a sea of pink light in a bid to encourage women of all ages to take part in the event in Towneley Park on Sunday, May 20th.

Women can choose whether to walk, jog or run the 5km route around the park on their own or as part of a group to raise money for Cancer Research UK.

Imogen Johnson, Cancer Research UK’s Burnley events manager, said: “Come on ladies – please enter Race for Life in Burnley. It’s all of us versus cancer and we need you to join the fight as soon as possible.

“Race for Life is not about being fast or fit. Instead, it’s a celebration of sisterhood and hope.

“Most women are able to walk 5km in an hour while chatting and having fun. The really startling fact is that in the same period of time, around four people in the North West will be diagnosed with cancer.

“We want to encourage women of all ages, shapes and sizes to enter Race for Life today. It’s all of us versus cancer and we need women to join the fight as soon as possible.”

Last year, 1,400 Burnley women took part in Race for Life and raised £66,000 but organisers hope that this year 1,700 women and girls will put their best foot forward to help raise £87,000.
