Gordon Roulston (47) was stopped by officers in Chapel Street, Brierfield, and a roadside breath proved positive. He had 88 micrograms of alcohol in 100 mls of breath. The legal limit is 35.

Roulston, of Chapel Street, admitted driving with excess alcohol on April 22nd. He had no previous convictions.

Magistrates ordered him to pay £365 in fines and charges and banned him for 20 months.

Lee Hammond (defending) said Roulston, who cared for his father, had had a couple of drinks during the day and did not think for a moment he would be over the limit. He believed the tip-off was from a neighbour he had had ongoing problems with. “There’s certainly no suggestion it was his manner of driving that attracted the attention of the police. He is deeply ashamed to be before the court,” said the solicitor.
