Time to sign up for Pendleside Hospice’s Midnight Walk

BURNLEY women are being urged to put their best foot forward and sign up for this year’s Pendleside Hospice Midnight Walk.

The event, one of the biggest in the hospice’s fund-raising calendar, will take place on Saturday, July 7th.

Starting at midnight, 2,000 participants will get the choice to complete a new five or eight-mile marshalled route starting and finishing at Burnley Football Club.

The walk was officially launched at Charter Walk shopping centre where members of the Burnley and Pendle Freemasons donned tuxedos and handed out pink roses and chocolates to women shoppers.

Hospice fund-raising manager Christina Cope said: “It was a very successful launch to our fourth Midnight Walk with 30 women signed up to the event and £514 was raised in collection buckets held by friends of Pendleside volunteers.”

New for this year will be a Queen tribute act including Steve Littlewood as Freddie Mercury to keep participants entertained before the start of the walk.

Hospice fund-raising manager Kaye Bartle added: “Our Midnight Walks are a fantastic opportunity for women to get together with friends and family to enjoy a great girls’ night out.

“It’s amazing to know that more than 2,000 people are getting together in the middle of the night to raise funds for the hospice.

“Many women take part to remember loved ones and we provide plaques that they can wear pinned to their backs on the walks – it’s a lovely way to honour the memory of loved ones and we often find three generations of families taking part.”

Entry is £10 per person and every walker will receive a Midnight Walk T-shirt, refreshments on the night and, on completion of the walk, a medal, certificate and bacon sandwich, vegetarian alternative or fruit salad.

Anyone wanting to take part can register at www.pendleside.org.uk or by call 01282 440120.
