The thieves then left the address before the 60-year-old female homeowner returned a short time later.

Police are keen to trace the driver of a red Seat Leon car, seen in the area at the time of incident.

PC Duncan Hall, of Lancashire Police said: "This was a cold and heartless theft during broad daylight.

"The occupant had only left the property for a short time before the home was targeted.
