The Football League sponsors have had just over 1,300 bets on Burnley to ‘do a Leicester’ forcing them to cut their odds from £5,000/1 to 1,000/1.

One punter placed £60 on the Clarets at 2,500/1 yesterday, setting up a potential payout of £150,000 and Sky Bet is reporting a liability close to £10m.

Sky Bet’s Dale Tempest said: “As the Football League sponsor, we were expecting interest from fans when we added Burnley into the title betting, but what followed has been quite remarkable and unprecedented.

“Just 128 backed Leicester at the start of this season and we’ve already got well over a thousand bets on Burnley, making for some pretty frightening reading in our outright book.”

Sky Bet aren’t optimistic Sean Dyche’s teams will be sat at the top end of the table though - they have them 4/5 for a quick return to the Championship.
