Thirteen arrests at Burnley FC v Port Vale FA Cup match
Local police liaised with their counterparts from Staffordshire for the match, and the match commander praised the efforts of officers in delaying with the boisterous away fans.
Chief Insp Jeff Brown said: “I am extremely pleased with how the policing operation went on the day. The standard of policing achieved by my officers on the day was outstanding in dealing with a lot of problematic fans. The vast majority of the 2,500 Port Vale fans were well behaved, however, we did have significant problems with drinking but individuals who were involved were dealt with robustly.”
After the match, minibuses and coaches carrying the away fans were escorted by police along Harry Potts Way and Belvedere Road causing delays for home fans in the Ormerod Road area.
There was a heavy police presence at the match including police dogs and the force helicopter circling overhead.
