These were the scenes last night as Lancashire firefighters tackled a wildfire near crown point

Fire crews from Burnley, Bacup, Nelson and Rawtenstall were called to a moorland fire off Crown Point Road, Burnley at 7.19pm last night (Thursday, April 22).

Huge plumes of smoke could be seen billowing from the site of the blaze, which was in moorland between Clough Bottom Reservoir and Clowbridge Reservoir next to Crown Point Road.

The incident is believed to have covered four hectares of grass that was alight when firefighters arrived.

Fire crews used beaters to bring the fire under control before beginning to dampen down the area.

At 8.50pm the number of units present was reduced from four to three, with the fire being brought under control by 9.15pm.

There were no injuries reported.
