Terminally-ill Hapton woman prepares for her dream wedding

A HAPTON woman who was told she has just months to live is to marry her fiance this weekend in a dream ceremony.

Two hundred guests will join primary school teacher Kathy Nutter(31) and Carl Morris for the marriage at Bolton School, and reception at Accrington Town Hall on Sunday.

The couple, of Bridgefield Street, have brought forward their wedding, which was originally planned for April, after Kathy was given the devastating news her illness is terminal.

Friends, family and complete strangers have raised £4,000 towards the cost of the wedding, and donated essentials such as Kathy’s dress, food, flowers, centrepieces and tableware.

Kathy’s friend Leah Massey, who has organised much of the big day, and will be a bridesmaid, said: “It’s all coming together now and Kathy and Carl are very excited. Kathy’s also a bit stressed. She’s had to go into hospital for blood transfusions this week, but she’s been getting up a lot more. She’s pushing herself.

“It will be a really nice day for her.”

The couple have arranged for a singer to perform at the ceremony, and some of Carl’s friends will provide the evening entertainment. Pupils from St John Southworth Primary School in Nelson, where Kathy worked until she became ill, have made all the place cards for the reception, and raised £1,500.

Leah said: “The school had a nice assembly for her and presented her with the place cards. She was touched by that, it was quite emotional.”
