Lewis Smith (18) suffered a stab wound to his stomach in an unprovoked attack with a group of unknown men at the festival in Manchester’s Heaton Park.

The former Burnley College student said he would never go back to the festival which only last year saw festival-goer Robert Hart (26) suffer fatal head injuries when he was attacked.

Lewis, of Bevan Place, Nelson, said: “It all happened very quickly and I still don’t know what started it.

“I was with my girlfriend Georgia when I felt a kick in my back. I turned around and saw a group of lads. I asked one of them why he had done it and we ended up in an altercation.

“The next thing I knew the lad ran off and I realised I’d been stabbed.”

Lewis went straight to a medical tent where he received stitches to the wound.

The attack took place around 7-45pm on Sunday, June 7th, outside the Drop The Mustard tent.

Police are investigating the incident and have released an e-fit and description of the attacker.

DC Rick Pack said: “This was a completely unprovoked and violent attack on someone who was, up until that point, having a good time with his girlfriend and friends.”

The offender is described as white, aged in his early 20s, of slim build, with long mousey coloured brown hair and brown or hazel eyes.
