Teen sexually assaulted in Burnley: police appeal

Police are hunting a man who sexually assaulted a teenage girl in Burnley.

The offender is said to have approached the 17-year-old from behind and put his hand up her skirt on Wednesday afternoon.

The distressing incident occurred at around 4pm, when the victim was walking towards the town centre.

It is believed the man was seen at the junction of Queens Lancashire Way and the crown court building and followed the victim on to Hammerton Street. She was outside Brunlea Travel Agents when she was targeted.

The offender is described as white, average build, approximately 5ft. 8in. tall, aged in his twenties with short dark hair, and a pale complexion. He was said to be clean shaven, and it is thought that he was wearing a beige or grey waist length waterproof jacket and dark trousers.

DC Jon Penson, of Burnley CID, said: “An investigation to identify the man responsible is underway and I would appeal to anyone who was in the vicinity at the time of the incident and who may have seen a man matching this description to contact us.”
