Teen charged with rape of Nelson pensioner

A SEVENTEEN-year-old boy is due to appear before Burnley magistrates this afternoon charged with the rape of a Nelson pensioner.

The 64-year-old woman was subjected to a sexual assault in her own home in the Chatham Street/Pendle Street area of Nelson in the early hours of last Thursday.

The boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, is also from Nelson.

Police were called to the address at 1-30 a.m. following the report and evidence was collected by Crime Scene Investigators.

Senior Investigating Officer Det. Supt Ian Critchley said: “The victim has been left very distressed following her ordeal. She has shown an incredible amount of bravery in retelling the story in order for us to build up a clear picture of what happened.”
