Teen accused of £60,000 cigarettes/tobacco scam

A teenager has appeared at Burnley Magistrates’ Court, accused of a £60,000 duty scam involving cigarettes and tobacco.

Haroon Rasheed Khan (19) who also faces a £5,000 money laundering charge, is alleged to have evaded duty on almost 235,000 cigarettes and more than 25kg. of hand-rolling tobacco.

His case will be heard at the crown court and was transferred to Manchester Magistrates’ Court. The defendant did not indicate pleas.

Khan, of Hind Street, Burnley, is accused of fraudulent evasion of duty in relation to 234,860 cigarettes and 25.25kg of hand-rolling tobacco.

He is also charged with acquiring/using/possessing criminal property.

Both alleged offences are said to have taken place in Burnley last June 25th.
