A very special woman was joined by family and friends as she celebrated her 105th birthday.
And to help Sybil Brookes mark the momentous milestone, Lower Ridge Residential Home put on a day fit for Queen.
Four violinists from Burnley Orchestra played at the party while Sanderson Dance Studio’s Elisa and Amelia performed ballroom dancing for Sybil.
A delicious cake was also provided courtesy of Pendle Cake Company and guests were able to enjoy a buffet thanks to Sara, Lower Ridge’s cook.
Born in Bradford, Sybil moved to Bournemouth before settling in Burnley. After leaving school at the age of 16 she went to work at the Burnley Express where she was the editor’s secretary. Sybil was also a keen model and would regularly enter competitions for local hairdressers Pat Gregory.
A keen traveller, she has enjoyed Caribbean cruises on the QE2, visited Hollywood and spent time in Las Vegas.
Senior carers Carolyn Skelly and Becky Jackson said: “She’s a keen ballroom dancer and loved nothing more than to spend her younger days at Blackpool in the Tower Ballroom with her late husband, who she whilst on holiday with her mum in Blackpool. Sybil was also a keen singer and remains so to this day filling Lower Ridge with her singing and especially the song ‘Hold Your Hands Out You Naughty Boy’.
“Sybil is a fantastic lady and everyone in the home speaks highly of her.”
