Sweet treats were icing on the cake at high school open night

An open night held at Burnley’s Blessed Trinity RC College was a bumper success with staff and students from each department staging games, challenges and displays to give visiting children and their families a glance into high school life.

In the science department they used bunsen burners to watch litmus paper change colour and also played their part as the flames reached the ceiling in the ‘Flaming Soap Bubbles’ experiment.

In maths, sweets and cocktail sticks made triangles and tetrahedrons, student made name badges in Design and Technology and in history it was about lotions and potions as teachers dressed up as wise women, a ‘Plague Doctor’ and apothecaries talking about operations in the middle ages.

There were curries and cakes to sample in hospitality and catering and in sport parents got the chance to test their skills at table tennis and cricket.

"It was a successful night," said acting headteacher Phil Thompson. "We are extremely proud of our school and of the dedicated staff and students here and we are keen to show off all our superb facilities."
