Students pick up tips from top chefs

Year Nine students at Shuttleworth College are hoping they have the correct ingredients to become a chef.

The Food and Nutrition students went to The Boathouse in Appley Bridge, near Wigan, and they were given an insight into the industry and life as a chef.

They explored the kitchen and learnt about some industrial equipment as well as seasonal and local produce and exciting ingredients.

“The students even had the opportunity to taste unusual foods - such as purple potatoes, white carrots, edible pansies and miniature fruits,” said teacher Jen Hughes.

“They worked with the owners and chefs of the restaurant and produced a starter, main course and dessert. They learnt how the chefs present their dishes and had a go themselves.

“The Year Nine students were a credit to the school and the restaurant have agreed to work with Shuttleworth College again in the near future.”
