Students excel on Armed Forces Day

The competition saw Burnley College Sixth Form Centre advanced public services students Jamie Atkinson, Emily Hargreaves, Tia Swindells, Miles Wold and Connor Wold take part with cadets and veterans.

The drill team also laid a wreath to commemorate fallen soldiers before marching in the Armed Forces Day parade alongside Lord Shuttleworth.

Their tutor Kerrie Anne McHale said: “All the students who took part in the parade and drill competition behaved impeccably and were a credit to the college. Their silver medal was well-deserved and the day’s events will no doubt be unforgettable for them all.”

College Principal Hugh Bramwell said: “Taking part in competitions at prestigious events like Armed Forces Day is an opportunity for our Advanced Public Services students to show their skills and be a shining example of the discipline and drive they are taught. Students from this course have progressed to successful careers in the Armed Forces.”

Armed Forces Day was developed as a chance for the public to show support for the men and women who make up the Armed Forces community: from currently serving troops to Service families, veterans and cadets.

The borough of Burnley is also a signed up member of the Armed Forces Covenant.
