BURNLEY’S Prairie playing fields could soon be home to a new sports complex.
Burnley Borough Council’s Executive has approved applications to the Sport England and Premiership Facilities funds to cover the cost of the scheme and a more detailed business plan and project plan will now be drawn up.
The proposed centre would include a full-sized 3G artificial grass pitch to be used by Burnley FC community programme, facilities for American football and rugby league and a new changing pavilion which could incorporate a gym, multi-use studio and a golf shop.
The development could also include a golf practice range and Golf Roots coaching academy with chipping and putting area.
Coun. John Harbour, the council’s Executive member for leisure and culture, said: “We’ve had a lot of false alarms with this projects so we should move ahead with caution. It is a very exciting scheme though.”
