The Woodland Spa in Burnley has once again received international recognition after winning the Global Luxury Day Spa at this year’s World Luxury Spa Awards.
The lavish award ceremony took place at the exquisite 5-star Grand Hotel Kronenhof Pontresina in Switzerland and once again The Woodland Spa succeeded in seeing off competition from more well established spas in spectacular destinations from as far afield as Sri Lanka and the United States.

At last year’s event, The Woodland Spa won the Global Luxury Spa Award and Global Emerging Luxury Day Spa, so they were delighted to follow that up with another top global award. Feedback from the event’s organisers made it clear that they were happy to see The Woodland Spa’s continued success and they stated that it is highly unusual for a winner in the emerging category to follow that up with a win in a main category the following year.
Crow Wood Leisure Director Oliver Brown, said: “The event was fantastic and the level of competition was incredible, so we’re extremely proud to be flying the flag for Burnley and the North West and challenging people’s perceptions.
“We have been working hard to deliver a genuinely world class experience and in doing so, we’re demonstrating that our area offers quality and sophistication.
“When we opened The Woodland Spa three years ago, it represented a big investment and a big risk, but we felt that we had the location, the staff and the experience to make it happen. We feel that our confidence has been vindicated as The Woodland Spa is being recognised nationally and internationally.”
Since the £4.5 million investment in The Woodland Spa in 2013, Crow Wood has doubled its number of staff to 160, the business’ catering arm serves 7,500 covers per month and the business exceeded sales of £5million of in 2014/15.
Earlier this month, the expansion of the Spa’s outdoor facilities was officially opened following a further £750,000 investment.
This has seen the opening of The Terrace Bar and the outdoor terrace areas have substantially increased in size with the new large infinity spa pool and a fabulous outdoor fire pit, which is surrounded by comfortable sofas - perfect when relaxing with a cocktail!
