A thief who struck after being banned from the town centre, two weeks after receiving a suspended jail term, has been locked up.
Burnley magistrates heard how Roy Taylor (51) was made the subject of a criminal behaviour order on November 24th. But, on December 17th and 21st, he went shoplifting, stealing 10 pairs of socks worth £49.90 and washing liquid worth £25.
Taylor, who has 100 theft offences on his record and is a former drug addict, claimed he struck because he owed £20 to a loan shark.
Taylor, of Leyland Road, Burnley, admitted two counts of breaching the order and two of theft. He was jailed for 12 weeks after a deputy district judge imposed eight weeks for the offences and activated the four-week custodial term imposed on December 7th.
