His death has been a huge tragedy for his family and friends.

Adam Smith from Brierfield, who had studied at Nelson and Colne College and worked at Boundary Mill Stores, Colne, was studying a degree in chemistry at Liverpool University.

While at university he contacted his mother Mrs Eileen Lovett each day by text or phone. But last week she was unable to get in touch with him and contacted the university. And he was sadly found dead in his room there.

Investigations are still continuing into the cause of his death, but it is believed to be the effects of epilepsy and an inquest will take place.

Adam was born and brought up in Scotland, living at West Lothian near Edinburgh, but came to Pendle six years ago and studied at the college and worked part-time in the store for three years.

In the past, Mrs Lovett of Taylor Street, Brierfield, discovered him unconscious on the floor in his bedroom.

It was established he was suffering epileptic fits after an ambulance attended and took him to hospital.

Last week when Adam was at Liverpool University he contacted his mother on Monday but she said: “On Tuesday he didn’t get in touch. On Wednesday morning I called the university and asked them to go and check him out. His friends found him in his room and they phoned the police.

“The police came here at 11-30am and told me what had happened.

“He was greatly loved and we greatly miss him. He was such a happy and mischievous young man. He was so funny!

“Everybody who knew him are really upset. He was well loved. His biggest friend Liam Hurrell has been a big support to me.”

The funeral takes place at Burnley Crematorium on Tuesday at 1-40pm. As well as his family, lots of friends and colleagues from Boundary Mill will attend. And they will celebrate his life at Rosegrove Unity WMC after the service.

When Mrs Lovett was informed about the tragedy, she had to inform his relatives. Her husband Kevin, Adam’s stepfather, was at work and the police rang him.

And Adam’s father Mr Leslie Smith, who works at Prague in the Czech Republic, was also informed and will be attending the funeral.

And Adam’s two sisters, Ashleigh and Sandra, will also attend. Their mother said: “He was loved by everyone at work, and friends from Scotland have been to see his family after the tragedy.

“I always loved him. He was happy and had a good life. I miss him so much.”
