A member of the Conservative Party, Mr Landriau represented Marsden ward on Nelson Town Council for many years.

He was married to wife Doreen and they had two daughters.

Mr Landriau had a career in the Army and served with the Pay Corps, mainly with the Royal Signals.

That military background led to him playing a significant role in Nelson Town Council giving the Freedom of the Town to war veterans in 2013.

He also had the community at heart, and was a long serving member of race-relations bodies throughout the 1980s and 1990s when he was part of the Burnley and Pendle Community Relations Council and its successor the Racial Equality Council for a 15 year period.

Former Conservative leader of Pendle Council, Coun. Joe Cooney, tweeted: “Saddened to hear about the sudden death of Nelson Town Councillor Mike Landriau.

“My thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends.”

Coun. Cooney added: “It’s completely out of the blue. He was hard working and did a lot of work with veterans. He was a thoroughly decent man.”

Fellow town councillor, Coun. George Adam, said Mr Landriau will be “sadly missed” by all.

Mr Adam said: “He was a member of the Royal British legion for a long time. I’ve known Mike for many years.

“It’s a sad loss for the whole community really, he was such a good man.”

Pendle MP Andrew Stephenson added his condolences saying: “This is absolutely tragic. My thoughts are with his friends and family.

“He contributed so much to Nelson and the wider area through a range of different community groups and sectors.

“Every time I went along to something Mike seemed to be involved with it in some way.”
