Shock at Burnley baby death tragedy: PHOTOS

Police are investigating the causes of the death of the baby boy after officers were called by paramedics to a mid-terraced house in Scarlett Street, in the early hours of Tuesday.

Forensics officers could be seen coming in and out of the house all day on Wednesday as mourners laid floral tributes at its front door.

At 2-40 a.m. on Tuesday police received a report from the ambulance service that a four-month-old baby boy had received serious head injuries at a house in Burnley.

The baby was taken to Royal Blackburn Hospital but was transferred to Manchester Children’s Hospital where he sadly later died.

A 24-year-old woman from Burnley and a 40-year-old man from Brighouse, West Yorkshire, were arrested on suspicion of child neglect and have been released on bail pending further inquiries.

Residents living in the Coal Clough Lane area have expressed their shock at the tragic developments.

One said: “Scarlett Street is usually fairly quiet. I didn’t know the family involved but it is very shocking. I feel so sorry for the little baby.”

One elderly resident said the street was made up of elderly people and young families renting the houses.

She said: “It’s terrible. The area isn’t that bad at all. I feel so sad.”
