‘Serious’ sex attack in Burnley back street - police hunt attacker

POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a woman was sexually assaulted during a horrifying back street attack.

The 32-year-old victim was forced into the back yard of an unoccupied house in Rylands Street, Duke Bar, between 12-30 a.m. and 1 a.m. this morning.

She was then seriously assaulted before the man, believed to be in his early 20s and Asian, made off.

Police are asking anybody who may have seen anything or be able to identify the man to come forward and Det. Chief Insp. Paul Withers, from Burnley CID, said: “This is a very serious offence and I would appeal for anyone with information to come forward.

“We have specially trained officers supporting the victim through this difficult time and a full investigation has been launched.

“I would like to reassure the local community that we have a team of dedicated professional officers dealing with this matter but would urge people to be vigilant until we catch the man responsible.”
