Named as the word of the year by the Oxford English Dictionary, ‘Selfie’ has evolved from a simple hashtag device into a commonly-used phrase to term a self-portrait photograph.

Now we’re asking you to send us your best selfie .... pop it on an email to [email protected]

And, to help raise awareness of Lancashire Day on November 27th, Marketing Lancashire and partners Dewlay Cheesemakers of Garstang and Bashall Barn, in Twitter Lane, Bashall Eaves, have launched a social media campaign to invite Lancastrians and visitors to Say Cheese For Lancashire Day and pose for their best selfies.

To get involved take your ‘selfie’ or simply a photo of your favourite Lancashire day out, Lancashire Cheese recipe or ‘cheesey’ smile and upload to Facebook or Flickr, or tweet it on Twitter using the hashtag #Lancashireday.

Research suggested ‘selfie’ has risen in frequency in the English language by 17,000% in the last year.

It is defined by Oxford Dictionaries as “a photograph that one has taken of oneself, typically with a smartphone or webcam and uploaded to a social media website”
