Search for would-be choir members after demise of Colne Linden Singers

PENDLE’S last adult mixed voice choir, the Colne Linden Singers, has folded.

And now a local man is bidding to establish a successor choir to encourage adult choral singing.

Barry Jackson, of Roughlee, said: “I was saddened to learn of the demise of Colne Linden Singers.

“In its heyday, it was a fine group of singers which achieved very high standards and provided great pleasure both for audiences and for its members.

“Choral singing is a fascinating and fulfilling pastime for anyone with even a small degree of music in them.

“With its passing, there is now a lack of opportunities for adult mixed-voice singing in Pendle, which is sad for an area as rich as ours in musical heritage.

“I would like to attempt to rectify this situation, and to this end I would ask anyone over the age of 16 who might be interested in participating in a new singing group to get in touch with me.

“The group as envisaged would concentrate on choral standards both old and contemporary, accompanied and a cappella.

Mr Jackson said he would welcome inquiries from singers of all abilities. He can be contacted by email or facebook at [email protected] or by phone on 699570.
