The image, spray painted in Burnley Football Club’s famous claret and blue on the end of a derelict building in Westgate, is the work of professional graffiti artist Paul Jones.

Paul (34), who runs his own studio Graffia, said he was overjoyed at the overwhelming public reaction to his work.

He said: “I’d had my eye on that building for quite a while because it’s in such a public location and seemed perfect for a mural.

“When Burnley became champions I realised that was the opportunity to do something.

“I messed around with a few ideas and thought about the Barack Obama vote poster. It was such an iconic image and I wanted to replicate it with Sean Dyche, the Burnley manager.

“I had a picture in my mind of Sean with his chin up as if looking in to the future. I searched around and managed to find just such a photograph.”

Former Habergham High pupil Paul then re-drew the photograph at his studio in Northbridge House in Elm Street and broke it up in to the Burnley colours.

With the creation firmly in his mind he set off to Westgate at 11pm on Saturday to spray paint the wall white before returning early the following morning to complete the image.

He added: “I have done a lot of commissions since setting up my own business, including customising football boots for some of the Burnley players and others around the world, but I was so nervous about the mural because it is so public.

“The response has been unbelievable – partner Jayne was nearly crying. I am so proud.”
