The Scullery at Shores Hey Farm gains coveted Taste Lancashire Award

Despite being opened for just over a month following a complete re-development of the HAPPA (Horses and Ponies Protection Association) site at Shores Hey Farm, Briercliffe, the Scullery Cafe has already been awarded a food hygiene rating of five stars from the Food Standards Agency and now, they have gained a Taste Lancashire Award for delivering the highest quality, locally sourced food and drink and excellent customer service and warmth.

The Scullery, open daily from 11am – 4pm serves a tempting range of homemade snacks and meals using locally grown produce provided by local suppliers and prepared onsite and to order by professional chefs. The rural setting of this establishment offers stunning views, horses and ponies, plenty of outside space and glimpses of deer and other wildlife.

Chef Manager, Mark Travis, is also locally grown, studying at Nelson & Colne Catering College more than eighteen years ago and honing his skills ever since in a number of prestigious eating establishments before heading up the HAPPA team at Shores Hey Farm.

Mark’s Lancashire based menu offers something for everyone. “I want to make sure that our menu is relevant to where we are – a great county with wonderful produce. Our food is freshly prepared and home cooked with love and care. We use locally sourced foods as much as possible and in turn support local farmers and small local businesses. We also offer great value for money and our weekday menu provides special offers every day at lunchtime. Our business is quite unique as the money generated through The Scullery Cafe helps to support the vital equine welfare work carried out by HAPPA. Every penny of profit made directly benefits the horses and ponies cared for by the charity”

The Scullery Cafe is situated within the Visitor’s Centre which also houses a farm shop, gift shop and children’s play and education area. There is even a ‘yummy mummy station’ offering bottle heating facilities, nappies, wipes and disposable bibs for guests with young families and a Tommy Trotter menu for bigger kids to enjoy.

Bookings are now being taken for the Christmas menu, served during December. The price of a two course meal is just £12.95pp with an additional course offered for a further £3.00. Booking is essential to avoid disappointment and those who book four places will get an additional place completely free. Guests are also welcome to bring along their own wine or beer to accompany their meal.
