The founder of a leading architec firm-has been named Businesswoman of the Year at the 2016 Asian Business Awards.
Burnley business boss Saira Hussain (26) is the founder and practice manager of Hussain Architectural Design LTD, which has offices in Burnley, Huddersfield, Manchester and Blackburn.
The former Nelson and Colne College student, who went on to studyarchitecture at Huddersfield University, scooped the prestigious award, which aims to promote and encourage young businessmen and women in the Asian community to prosper.
On the award, Saira said: “I am extremely humbled to have been presented with this award and will continue working to achieve further success for HAD (Hussain Architectural Design).
“I was always told that the construction industry was ‘no place for a woman’, and I understand that women make up only 11% of the industry, facing massive barriers on a daily basis.
“However, I feel both the image and culture of construction is slowly changing.
“As a woman I will continue to work towards fighting for better conditions and more flexible working policies that allow both men and women with other responsibilities to work within the industry.”
Hussain will be presented with her award at a ceremony which will take place on 30 April at the Eastern Pearl in Manchester.
