Sabden teacher faces sex abuse claims from 1970s

A retired teacher from Sabden has been charged with historic sex abuse allegations.

John Mead (75), who taught at Queen Elizabeth Grammar School, Blackburn, has been charged with four counts of indecent assault on boys under the age of 14.

Police said the offences are historic and were allegedly committed in the 1970s. One incident is said to have taken place in Slaidburn and two in Cumbria.

A police spokesman said: “John Mead (75), of Sabden, has been charged with four counts of indecent assault on a boy under 14 relating to three different victims. The offences are historic and were committed during the 1970s, two in Slaidburn and two in Cumbria.”

Mead has been released on police bail and is due to appear at Blackburn Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, November 14th.
