Roger (66), from Sabden, had smoked since he was 16 and had tried to quit.

When he retired he realised how much money he had wasted and decided to see the Quit Squad.

Roger said: “I visited the Quit Squad in August last year by booking a one-to-one session.

“From the first session they were very supportive and I found it really useful having someone there for support.

“I initially used a mouth spray then after three or four weeks I wasn’t using anything.”

Since he quit, Roger has saved the money he would have spent on cigarettes and bought a longbow for archery as a retirement hobby.

“I have no intention of starting smoking again now,” he said.

“As well as the financial benefits, I’ve also noticed that my breathing has greatly
improved. I’m now able to go on walks and take deep breaths.

“I also notice my clothes smell better now I’m not smoking – I can’t believe how bad the smoke makes them smell!”
