SABDEN: Help needed at Sabden Football Club

FAIR – Sabden Primary School’s summer fair raised £714 for school funds despite torrential rain. There were stalls and face painting and visitors could also try their hands at throwing a pot, decorating a biscuit and games. Thanks go to the tremendous support of parents, villagers and friends of the school. Mark Elliott won the £25 bonus ball competition.

FOOTBALL – Sabden Football Club is looking for a new manager for the over-16s’ team as well as new players, committee members and people to help with the upkeep of the ground and all aspects of the club. Girls are also wanted for an under-12s’ team. Ring club chairman Alan Birkett on 07850 779898. The club has a raffle for a large food hamper at Shippy’s shop in Padiham Road, and on August 28th there will be a fun day and duck race.

CIRCLE – The next meeting of Sabden Ladies’ Circle will be at 7-30 p.m. on Wednesday, in the church hall.

COUNCIL – Sabden Parish Council meets on Tuesday evening in St Nicholas’s Church Hall. The public are welcome to attend. See the village noticeboard for the time of the meeting.

SCHOOL – Sabden Primary School has said farewell to its Year 6 pupils and to teacher Mrs Rudd, who has served the school for many years. She has touched the hearts of many children, parents and staff and will be greatly missed. At the leavers’ assembly she was presented with a card containing messages from the children. One of her aims is to have more time in her garden. Also leaving was Mr Rimmer, who has contributed to the life of the school through his work with Lancashire Music Service and as a graduate teacher trainee.

TALENT SHOW – Sabden Primary School pupils put on a great show at their end-of-term talent show. The performers were fantastic and the judging nearly impossible although they eventually managed to decide on three winners. First was Owen Parker with his wonderful singing, second was Harry Rickard with his fantastic outfit and dancing and third was Will Sherratt with fancy footwork in his dancing. Congratulations to all the performers who gave a show to remember. Gill Sherratt has made a DVD of the show and these will be on sale for £5 when school re-opens in September.
