Royal prince shares a birthday with Sonny!

A Newton couple were blissfully unaware that as their son was coming into the world at Blackburn Birthing Centre, another notable birth was also imminent.

Amy Rhodes and her partner Alex Stevenson, from the Ribble Valley village, arrived at the specialist centre at 7-20am, where things progressed quickly after Amy entered the birthing pool.

She said: “We received a telephone call mid-morning from Annette Dugdale, one of the midwives who’s looked after me throughout my pregnancy who told me to hurry up and have the baby before Kate!”

She continued: “I didn’t think there was any chance of the babies being born on the same day as the news was saying she was in the early stages of labour. From my own experience, I thought it would definitely be another day away at least.”

Amy and Alex’s beautiful baby boy Sonny Ray Stevenson came safely into the world at 11-22am, weighing 6lbs 13oz, with the young prince delivered safely to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge at the Lindo Wing of St Mary’s Hospital in Paddington, London at 4-24 pm.

While the eyes of the world were on the newest member of the royal family, third in line to the throne, another little family were getting to know each other, with their own little media “circus” quickly developing, including interviews with the local paper and radio stations.

Amy recalled a conversation with her father on informing her parents she and Alex were to become parents in July: “We told my mum and dad I was expecting just a week or so after the news about Kate and Will’s baby had come out. My dad immediately said the babies would be born on the same day – I wish we’d put a bet on now!”
