Roads to close for Pennine 10K

The race – which will raise tens of thousands of pounds for charity – starts at 9-30am on Sunday, June 28th.

Road closures will begin from 4am and will reopen as soon as it is safe to do so, but, in the main, should be open to traffic again by noon.

Town centre roads affected include: Manchester Road, Yorke Street, Church Street, Queen Victoria Road, Netherwood Road, Omerod Street and Deer Park Road.

The Pennine Lancashire 10K route takes competitors from the start line outside the Town Hall in Manchester Road, along Church Street towards Thompson Park. It continues along Netherwood Road and then takes in Brunshaw Road, Deer Park Road, Towneley Park, Todmorden Road, passing close to Turf Moor Stadium, and comes back to Manchester Road for the grand finale.

Pennine Lancashire 10K event lead Tristan Batley-Kyle said: “This will be the third running of the Asda Foundation Pennine Lancashire 10K in Burnley and the previous two events have attracted fantastic support.

“Obviously any mass participation event brings a certain amount of disruption but we will be working very hard to minimise any inconvenience.

“Some roads have to be closed for a time to ensure the safety of our participants and spectators and we make every effort to reopen them as quickly as we can. We would, however, like to apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused.”

The event’s official partner charities are Pendleside Hospice, Macmillan Cancer Support, Derian House Children’s Hospice, Shine and the Jane Tomlinson Appeal.
