Road closures announced for Pennine 10k in Burnley
Road closures have been announced for Burnley’s Pennine Lancashire 10k next Sunday.
More than 1,500 runners are limbering up to take part in race organised by Jane Tomlinson’s For All Events.
Runners, spectators and residents are advised that a number of the town’s roads will be closed or have restricted access on race day.
Road closures will begin from 4am on Sunday, June 2nd and will affect roads around the 10K course. Roads will reopen as soon as it is safe to do so, but in the main should be open to traffic again by around noon.
Town centre roads affected include Manchester Road, Yorke Street, Church Street, Queen Victoria Road, Netherwood Road, Omerod Street and Deer Park Road.
The Pennine Lancashire 10K route takes competitors from the start line outside the Mechanics Theatre in Manchester Road, along Church Street towards Thompson Park.
It continues along Netherwood Road and then takes in Brunshaw Road, Deer Park Road, Towneley Park, Todmorden Road, passing close to Turf Moor Stadium, and comes back to Manchester Road for the grand finale.
Pennine Lancashire 10K event organiser Emma Griffiths said: “We’ve been given a really friendly welcome by the people and council in Burnley and we’re looking forward to a successful first event in the town.
“We work very hard to minimise any disruption but to be able to bring a mass participation event of this size and quality to any town, a small amount is inevitable.
“We always have to close a number of roads to ensure the safety of our participants and spectators and we ensure we reopen them as quickly as we can. We would, however, like to apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused.
“Thank you to everyone for their support for Burnley’s first Pennine Lancashire 10K.”
The Pennine Lancashire 10K is sponsored by the Asda Foundation, Burnley Borough Council, Lucozade, the Burnley Express and 2BR.
