Road closed as 5 fire engines tackle Burnley house fire

The home caught fire in Brunshaw Road at around 4.39am and five fire engines were called to the scene.

Police closed the road between the junctions of Ridge Avenue and Rimington Avenue and asked people to avoid the area to allow emergency services to operate.

Initial emergency reports to the fire service said that fire had been seen coming from the roof of the home.

Two fire crews from Burnley responded, but on their arrival, the severity of the fire led them to immediately request support from the Aerial Ladder Platform (ALP) in Hyndburn and an additional three fire crews from Nelson and Bacup.

A fire service spokesman said: "The fire involved the roof space of the home and was well alight on arrival.

"Eight firefighters wearing breathing apparatus tackled the fire using four hose reels.

"At approximately 6am, the fire in the roof space was extinguished and firefighters were damping down.

"The incident was reduced to two fire engines and the ALP, however a road closure was still in effect."

Crews are still in attendance alongside police who are maintaining a road closure in the area.

The home is reported to have suffered extensive damage in the fire.

There has been no mention of a fire investigation at this point.
