Ribble Valley MP thanks constituents for support after rape arrest

Ribble Valley MP Nigel Evans has thanked his constituents for their amazing support after his shock arrest following sex allegations.

The popular MP, has has represented the Ribble Valley for 21 years, said he had been overwhelmed by local support.

The Deputy Speaker of the House of Commons added: “I want to thank my constituents for their amazing support and reassure them I will not ignore my duties as their elected member of parliament.”

The 55-year-old was arrested from his home in Pendleton around 7-30 a.m. on Saturday on suspicion of raping one man and sexually assaulting another – allegations which he says are “completely false”.

“I would like to thank my colleagues, friends and members of the public who have expressed their support, and like me, a sense of incredulity at these events. Thank you very much.”
