Steve Reid, owner of the Kettledrum Inn on Red Lees Road, has offered a meal for two for anyone who can assist in the Kettledrum Cat’s recovery.

The Kettledrum Cat was brought from a furnishing place when the re-branded pub opened in April of last year, and quickly became a much-loved tenant of the family-owned pub’s ladies’ toilets.

This is the second disappearance of the unmistakable three-foot-high wooden cat this year. It was eventually returned before going missing again a few weeks ago.

“The Kettledrum Cat went on a bit of an adventure in April,” said Steve.

“Some teachers took it away and took pictures of it riding on a horse and on a tractor, and sleeping with sheep.”

Steve believes the first incident, and its subsequent chronicling on social media, may have inspired its latest theft.

“I do not know how they did it. Everyone is upset about it,” he said.

“Because of all that happened in April, somebody nicked it a couple of weeks ago.

“You always get some nasty person who will steal it.”

In an effort to bring about the Kettledrum Cat’s safe return, Steve is offering a meal as a reward for anyone who can help.
