Remember loved ones

The Pendleside Hospice Light up a Life campaign has been officially launched and residents are being urged to dedicate a coloured light to pay tribute to relatives.

Light up a Life sees thousands of lights displayed around the outside of the hospice building at Reedley throughout Christmas and New Year.

The lights will be turned on by the Mayor of Pendle at a special service on Sunday, December 15th, at 3-30pm.

There will be seasonal carols and readings and performances by Grace O’Malley and the BASICS Junior Theatre Group. Free refreshments are also provided. The service is sponsored by Alderson and Horan funeral directors who also provide a Christmas tree for the entrance to the hospice building.

After Christmas the names of everyone being remembered is entered into a Book of Remembrance that is kept on display at Pendleside throughout the year. The book is provided each year by Co-operative Funeralcare.

Hospice fund-raising manager Mrs Kaye Bartle said: “Last year more than 8,500 of our loved ones were remembered with our Light up a Life appeal.

“The memories we have of each one of them shone out brightly around the hospice building. Our switch on service is a lovely time for us all to get together and take time out at this very busy time of year to collectively remember those special people who were an important part in our lives.”

Anyone who wants to take part in the Light up a Life appeal can pick up a leaflet from any of the hospice’s eight charity shops in the area, hospice reception or from either of the sponsors Alderson and Horan or Co-operative Funeralcare.

In recognition of the donation they will receive a Light up a Life card and a voucher that can be redeemed for a lapel badge or a hanging tree decoration.

A light can be dedicated to anyone who was special to you and is not restricted to those who have received care from the hospice or suffered a life limiting illness.
