Record attendance at college open day

Hundreds of prospective pupils flocked to the open night at a Padiham high school which this year celebrated its best ever GCSE results.

It was a record attendance for visitors at Shuttleworth College's open evening which included presentations from headteacher Ruth England who spoke about the great strides forward the school had made.

This year the college in Burnley Road notched up some of the best Maths results in Burnley with 20 per cent of students achieving grades seven to nine and in English the number of students gaining the highest grades tripled.

Mrs England said: " We were so pleased so many parents and prospective students came to our open evening,.

“The staff and current students have worked so hard and dedicated a lot of their time to make sure our school is a success.

"We are proud of our school."

From a bushtucker trial in food technology, to maths puzzles, science experiments and a sweet word test in English, prospective students got a chance to experience life at Shuttleworth.
