Re-surfacing work to start on M65

MAJOR resurfacing work of the M65 motorway will get underway this week.

The £2.1m. Highways Agency project will see both carriageways of the M65 between Junction 7 at Rishton and Junction 8 at Accrington resurfaced in the six week scheme due to begin on Saturday, September 10th.

In all, more than 1.5 miles of carriageway will be resurfaced and safety barriers on the hard shoulder verge will also be replaced.

Highways Agency contractors will be working along the motorway around the clock with the project due to be completed by Friday, October 21st.

The work will be delivered in two phases starting with a round-the-clock closure of the eastbound hard shoulder and lane one for three weeks.

During this phase the westbound carriageway will be reduced overnight to single lane running using lane three or the hard shoulder.

During the second stage of the work, the traffic management will switch carriageways with a full closure of the westbound hard shoulder and lane one and single lane running overnight along the eastbound carriageway.

The national speed limit will apply through the works except when the hard shoulder is used as a running lane when a 50mph speed limit will be in place.

Some entry and exit slip roads will be closed intermittently overnight but clearly signed diversions will be in place.

All overnight work will take place between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m. but with work and lane closures being allowed to run until 10 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday mornings.
