Homebase, which has 342 outlets nationwide, announced the town’s store on the Ashfield Retail Centre would close.

It is unclear when Homebase would cease to operate from the building in Calder Vale Road – but bosses have announced that another national retailer would be taking over the store.

The Range, which is one of Britain’s fastest growing retailers, will now take on the lease of the store.

The firm, which has around 100 stores across the country, sells home, garden and leisure products.

A spokesman for Homebase said: “Following a period of consultation with colleagues, we have announced that the Homebase store in Burnley will close, with a date yet to be confirmed.

“The store lease is transferring to retailer The Range subject to planning and landlord consents, who will invite all Homebase Burnley colleagues for an interview to work in their new store.

“Where possible we will also look for opportunities for colleagues at nearby Homebase and Argos stores.”
