Raising awareness of dementia

The event is free and will offer professional advice about local services for people who are living with dementia. It will also provide information about the help and support available for families, carers and friends.

County Coun. Marcus Johnstone, cabinet member for environment, planning and cultural services, said: “The Memory Festival will showcase the wide range of resources and holistic, enriching activities available for people living with dementia.

“These include watercolour painting, shared reading, memory boxes, books on prescription, ‘singing for the brain’, aromatherapy and much more.

“As well as raising awareness about dementia and the high-quality specialist services available countywide, the event will also help to tackle the stigma that’s often associated with the condition.”

The festival will take place between 10am and 3pm and will feature information stalls from a number of organisations including the Alzheimer’s Society, dementia alliances, libraries, museums, care homes, Age UK and Connect4Life.

There will also be arts activities, music workshops, dementia simulation sessions and an introduction to Dementia Friends, people who learn about what it’s like to live with dementia and the small things they can do to help people in their local community.
