Pupils bake for Pendleside Hospice in memory of Mick Ennis

Mr Ennis passed away with cancer earlier this month but a series of fundraising events had been held as a tribute to the popular teacher over the last few months as he battled with his illness.

Blessed Trinity students had helped out at the charity football match between the Vintage Clarets and St Ted’s Old Boys, which was organised by Mr Ennis’s former St Theodore’s students.

More than £15,000 was raised that day, and through an auction of donated memorabilia, and the Blessed Trinity students helped out selling programmes and raffle tickets.

They decided they wanted to contribute more and so class 10T made cakes at home and brought them in over two break times and raised £166.

Mick’s daughter Claire Ennis-McGurk, whose dad was treated in Pendleside Hospice, said: “We were really proud of the way students past and present raised money for the Hospice as a tribute to my dad and it was nice that the current students to have a cake sale.”

Head Teacher Mr Varey said: “Mick Ennis was an inspirational member of staff and the students wanted to do their bit to raise funds for Pendleside Hospice.”
