Pupil accused of horror attack on teacher in class at Burnley school

A TEACHER was knocked to the ground and repeatedly punched in the face by a pupil at a Burnley school.

The incident happened during an English class at Sir John Thursby Community College, in Eastern Avenue, around 1-30pm last Tuesday .

The 28-year-old woman was left with a cut on her head, loosened teeth and a swollen face for which she sought hospital treatment.

A police spokesman said a 15-year-old boy had been arrested and charged with section 47 assault in connection with the incident.

He is due to appear before Burnley Youth Panel later this month.

Mr David Burton, headteacher at the school, said: “I can confirm that a pupil has been excluded following an incident in school. However, as the matter is subject to police investigation, I am unable to comment further.”
