£9,000 fraud claim workmen appear at crown court

Two men accused of overcharging a Burnley pensioner by more than £9,000 for roofing work appeared at the town’s crown court.

Jake John Ashworth (21), of Eastern Avenue, and Guljamal Din (31), of Claughton Street, both Burnley, are charged with fraud by false representation.

It is alleged that on or between September 27th and October 23rd last year they carried out work which was of sub-standard workmanship and the costs were disproportionate, intending to gain £9,340.

A court earlier heard allegations an expert had reported the work done for 72-year-old Donald Holgate should have cost £400 at the most. The defendants will now face a plea and case management hearing on April 30th and were granted conditional bail.
