£400,000 cannabis farms discovered in Nelson - police bail man

TWO cannabis factories, containing more than 1,000 plants with an estimated street value of over £400,000, have been destroyed after they were discovered at two houses in Nelson.

Officers found 47 plants after a raid at an address in Rhoda Street on Tuesday afternoon. A further 990 plants were found after a second raid at an address in Walton Lane.

A 29-year-old man was arrested in suspicion of being concerned in the supply of cannabis and was being questioned by police before being bailed.

Geographic Inspector for Nelson Phil Davies said: “This comes as part of our continued crackdown on drugs in Nelson.

“We will continue to work with our partners such as the utility companies and council to tackle the issue.

“We are grateful for the support we receive from the public and I urge them to work with us to reduce the supply of cannabis in Nelson and the surrounding areas.

“We know the public are concerned about cannabis factories – not only do they pose a threat to our neighbourhoods but they are also very dangerous and present a huge fire risk and we are committed to taking action to remove them from our communities.”
