Primary school pupils hone their artistic talents
It was all the fun of the seaside when Shuttleworth College carried out an art enrichment programme at St Peter's Primary School.
Art teacher Louise Hardwick spent four weeks, every Wednesday afternoon, with the Year Sixes at the school and it involved shells, sand and seaweed.
“I picked items up from the beach and brought them into school for the students to explore different techniques, from continuous line drawing, to still life and now they are creating batik designs - a technique of wax-resist dyeing - on material,” said Louise. “They are making colourful penants which will be made into bunting and displayed on the school’s corridor.”
St Peter’s Year Six teacher Gill Coyne said: “The pupils have loved it. They have learnt new techniques and enjoyed doing something completely different.”
