Ribble Valley residents urged to look out for their voter registration letter

And if you want to vote in the elections, which are scheduled for May, you must be on the electoral register.

Each year Ribble Valley Borough Council conducts a "canvass" to ensure its register is accurate and identify any residents who are not registered.

Voter registration letters have started dropping through letterboxes in the borough this week.

You are asked to look out for your letter and follow the instructions to ensure your registration is up to date.

People who have moved recently are particularly encouraged to look out for their letter, as research shows recent home-movers are far less likely to be registered than those who have lived at the same address for a long time.

Across Great Britain, 92 per cent of people who have been at their property for more than sixteen years will be registered, compared to 36 per cent of people who have lived at an address for less than one year.

Mair Hill, Ribble Valley Borough Council’s head of legal and democratic services, said: “Elections are an important part of the democratic process and it is important that everyone who is entitled to vote is able to do so.

“Providing the necessary information will ensure the process runs smoothly and will be particularly helpful in the current public health situation.”
