Members of the Privy Council are appointed by the Queen on the advice of the Prime Minister. As a member of the Privy Council, Nigel is now entitled to be addressed as "Right Honourable".

Speaking about his appointment, Conservative MP Mr Evans, said: "I am honoured and humbled to have been appointed by Her Majesty the Queen to the Privy Council, and I am pleased that myself and the Ribble Valley have been recognised in this way.

“I would like to thank the people of the Ribble Valley, as this appointment would not have been possible without the Ribble Valley electing me as their representative for the past eight elections. I greatly look forward to the ceremony with the Queen, and to further representing the people of the Ribble Valley, when it is possible for the ceremony to go ahead."
